The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said today in Brussels that the talks with the Prime Minister of Kosovo and European officials have been unsuccessful, reports Anadolu.
“The talks ended unsuccessfully in terms of finding a clear path towards the normalization of relations. We all have our suggestions. In the end, we as Serbia accepted the compromise proposals of the EU. Kurti didn’t want to and the meeting ended,” said Vučić after the meeting.
He added that the Prime Minister of Kosovo is avoiding the formation of the Community of Municipalities with a Serbian majority.
“Serbia does not run away from its obligations, but we and the EU have said what the schedule is. We accepted that proposal, despite the fact that it is not easy at all, and Kurti refused it,” said Vučić.
He explained that the European proposal refers primarily to the formation of the Community of Municipalities with a Serbian majority, which, as the Serbian president claims, the Kosovo side rejects.
“I don’t believe that this is the end of the world. The answer will be heard as to who is responsible, who is responsible. It is something that must happen. It is important for us to continue talking,” said Vučić.
After separate meetings, a trilateral meeting of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti with representatives of the European Union (EU) was held in Brussels on Thursday as part of a new round of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.
The meeting, which lasted about two hours, was attended by the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, the Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy and Security Josep Borrell and the EU’s special representative for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina Miroslav Lajčak.
Head of European diplomacy Borrell will address the journalists about the details of the meeting.
He said during the meeting that it is time for the Agreement on the path to the normalization of relations to begin to be seriously implemented and that today it will be clear whether the parties are ready to take responsibility.
The last meeting was held on June 22 of this year, due to growing tensions in the north of Kosovo, but on that occasion only separate meetings were held between the representatives of Belgrade and Pristina with the Brussels hosts.
