The left back in the Ajman team, Walid Al Yamahi, revealed that a “frankness session” was behind the improvement in the “Orange” results in the recent period, despite his humble start in the league.
He told «Emirates Today»: “After the fourth round, the players held a frank session with each other, and we pledged not to lose any match held in our stadium, and indeed we succeeded in collecting seven points in the last three matches in the league, and we also won the Khorfakkan match in the President’s Cup. We will work in this spirit until the end of the season, because our goal is to be among the top six in the league standings this season.”
Regarding Goran’s return again to coach Ajman, and how he sees the impact of that return on the team, the Ajman defender said: “The positive environment in the club for years helps any coach or any new player to succeed, and a good follower of the (Orange) career in the last 10 seasons will confirm that. All the coaches who passed through the club achieved great successes, and this is due to the management’s work based on providing them with all means of success.”
Regarding Ajman’s chances in the President’s Cup, after the draw brought them into a clash with Shabab Al-Ahly, Walid Al-Yamahi said: “It is certainly a difficult match for us and for them as well, and the chances in such confrontations are equal, regardless of the disparity between the two parties, because it is one match, unlike a championship.” The league needs a long breath, and we will not waste that opportunity, and our goal is to reach the semi-finals.”
The player nicknamed “Roberto Carlos” stressed that the openness of ADNOC Professional League clubs to bringing in resident and foreign players in the left-back position has greatly reduced the appearance of national players in this position in recent years.
He said: “Most clubs, specifically those competing for the league title, brought in resident players in the left-back position. Today, the main left-backs in Al-Ain, Al-Wahda, Al-Jazira, Al-Wasl, Al-Nasr, and other clubs are resident players.”
He added: “Ajman, at the beginning of this season, signed the resident player, the Moroccan Mohamed Sboul, and this increased the intensity of the competition in this position between three players, and everyone is doing their best to be part of the team’s starting lineup.”
Walid stressed that he is fully prepared, both technically and physically, to return to matches, after a long period of absence due to injury.
Walid Al Yamahi suffered a severe injury, a double fracture in his foot, during the Al Ain match in the 14th round last season, which forced him to be absent from the field for about six months.
Al-Yamahi said: “I joined the team in its external camp normally, and participated in some friendly matches, and with the start of the new season, I moved out of the accounts of Serbian coach Goran, who began to rely more on the Moroccan resident, Mohamed Sboul, and Saud Saeed, who occupy the same place as me, to If the latter succeeds in being the starting full-back, and this choice compensates me a lot for not playing, because Saud Saeed is considered one of the best people to occupy this position in the UAE League, and he worked a lot to be a starter in his place.”
He added: “For my part, I am doing my best to return to the starting lineup, and I am preparing for that return with full force, and I have confidence in my abilities. I will cling to the opportunity when it comes to me again, and I will not give it up easily.”
