Biden, Macron, Scholz, Meloni and Sunak condemn Hamas and express support for Israel
The presidents of the US, Joe Biden, and of France, Emmanuel Macron; the German chancellor, Olaf Scholz; and the prime ministers of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, and the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, condemned this Monday in a joint statement the Hamas attack on Israel and expressed their firm support for the Jewish State.
“Over the coming days, we will remain united and coordinated, as allies and friends of Israel, to ensure its ability to defend itself,” the five leaders declared in a statement in the wake of the new Gaza war sparked by Hamas’ attack on Israel.
Biden, Macron, Scholz, Meloni and Sunak stressed their “firm and united support for the State of Israel, and unequivocal condemnation of Hamas and its atrocious acts of terrorism.”
The leaders affirmed that they recognize “the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people,” but stressed that Hamas “does not represent those aspirations and offers nothing to the Palestinian people but terror and bloodshed.”
They agreed that Hamas’ unprecedented attack on Israel “must be universally condemned” and pledged to support the Jewish state so that it can “defend itself against such atrocities.” In that sense, they warned that “this is not the time for any adversary of Israel to take advantage of these attacks to profit” from what happened.
