On Friday, the Romanian authorities arrested Muhammad Ibrahim Bazzi, one of the most prominent financiers of the Lebanese Hezbollah militia, according to what Washington announced.
Bazzi, who has been on the US terror list since 2018, was arrested upon his arrival at Bucharest airport.
Bazzi, who is 58 years old, holds dual Lebanese and Belgian nationalities.
Washington had allocated a $10 million reward for information on the whereabouts of Bazzi, who contributed to collecting millions of dollars for Hezbollah over the years.
“Mohamed Bazzi believed he could secretly move hundreds of thousands of dollars from the United States to Lebanon without law enforcement noticing,” said US Attorney in Brooklyn Bryon Pace, adding, “His arrest today proves that Bazzi was wrong.”
Bazzi, along with another Lebanese citizen, Talal Shaheen, 78, will be deported from Romania to the United States.
