Muissu has returned home after receiving huge financial support from China. China’s offer is 130 million US dollars. He clarified that this amount will be used for the development of roads in Maldives.
In continuation of this statement made after his return from China, he is also making efforts to inspire the people by pointing out the excellence of the country. He said that Maldives is a country with a large economic zone of 900,000 square kilometers. He said that Maldives is one of the countries with the largest sea area in the world. “The Indian Ocean does not belong to any one country. It belongs to all the countries located in this sea. We are not an outlier of anyone. We are a free, sovereign country,” the President added. It is clear that the words are aimed precisely at India.
It became a diplomatic issue when the Deputy Ministers of Maldives issued social media statements disparaging the Indian Prime Minister’s visit to Lakshadweep and swimming in the sea. Although the President immediately suspended the Deputy Ministers, a statement has now come from Muissu confirming that the government’s approach is the same as that of the Deputy Ministers. The opposition in the country has been strongly criticizing Muisu’s stance. The opposition warned the administration that Maldives’ centuries-long relationship with India has been destroyed. But new statements make it clear that none of this has deterred Muissu.
There is also a statement from Muissu revealing that they have received significant support from China at the same time. He said the Chinese family respects the independence, sovereignty and national dignity of the Maldives. He also stated that China opposes foreign interference in the internal affairs of Maldives.
