During his heyday years, Margarito Machacuay He won the hearts of many Peruvians for his great charisma and spontaneity. He was considered the tallest man in Peru and, in the 1990s, he became a prominent comedian, also known as the ‘Bagua Giant’.
However, due to his gigantic size, Margarito had to battle various diseases throughout his life and, due to his unique height, he found himself in need of adapting his lifestyle, very different from that of a common person.
Who was Margarito Machacuay and how tall was he?
Margarito Machacuay Valera was born on October 27, 1963 in Utcubamba, Bagua Grande (Amazon). He suffered from gigantism, condition that made him grow abnormally, until he reached a height of 2.28 meters. Due to his great height, he became known as the ‘Bagua Giant’. .
At the time, he was recognized as the tallest person in Peru and, after the birth of his first son, Margarito Segundo, the fruit of his love with his wife Marlene Ramos, joined the Adventist religion.
What was Margarito’s lifestyle like?
Because of his great stature, Daisy he had to adapt his lifestyle to one that can meet his needs. His house in Bagua Grande was three meters, and his dishes were the biggest possible. In the case of her clothing, he had to send her to be designed because ordinary clothes did not fit her.
In the case of public transport, such as motorcycles, he had to accommodate himself in a special way to be able to move.
That was not all, the ‘Bagua Giant’ had a series of illnesses and one of them made it difficult for him to walk. Unable to use prosthetics for his leg in 2018, he was forced to use a power wheel after being diagnosed with osteoarthritis.

What did Margarito Machacuay die of?
In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, Margarito passed away on April 21, 2020 at the age of 56, due to respiratory arrest after being hospitalized for six months at the Guillermo Almenara Hospital.
According to official reports, his death was due to a pulmonary thrombosis and not from COVID-19 , as had been speculated. Also, that day, his wife asked the authorities for help to take his body to Bagua Grande, because the country was in national quarantine.
Due to the difficulties involved in transporting his remains, Margarito had to be cremated and, finally, taken to his hometown for his relatives to say their last goodbyes.

How did Margarito become famous?
Like many characters in Peruvian entertainment, Margarito jumped into the world of spotlight thanks to the late 90’s program “Trampoline to Fame.”
Therefore, he managed to devote himself to comedy and the circus. However, despite the fact that he achieved great popularity, since he was making his way on TV with Jorge Benavides and Carlos Vílchez, he decided to leave it.
