New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget for the financial year 2023-24 in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. With Lok Sabha elections due next year, this will be the last budget for the entire year under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. Key statistics from Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s budget speech:
- Indian economy has come from 10th position to 5th position in last 9 years.
- Per capita annual income has risen to Rs 1.97 lakh.
- In the new income tax regime, the tax exemption ceiling has been increased to Rs 7 lakh
- According to the Center for Science and Environment’s Environment Report 2022, India’s environmental quality rating has risen to 66 out of 100.
- Bank deposits for people above 60 years from Rs.15 lakh to Rs. 30 lakhs increase
- Annually in women’s banks Rs. 7.5% interest will be paid on deposits up to 2 lakhs. It will be valid for two years only.
- 35,000 crores will be provided for alternative fuel projects aimed at curbing carbon emissions
- Funding for Prime Minister’s Housing Project will be increased by 66 percent. That is, Rs.79 thousand crores will be allocated for this project.
- Agricultural loan target amount Rs. 20 lakh crore
- 15 thousand crores for 3 years to improve housing, drinking water, road and telecommunication facilities for tribal people
- 38,800 teachers and staff will be selected for the Ekalaivan text schools. This will benefit 3.5 lakh tribal students.
- 157 new nursing colleges will be established across the country.
- India has moved up to the 3rd position in the world in terms of the number of start-up companies.
