Before his arrest, Andrés Hurtado had been undergoing a recovery process after a series of surgical interventions in the genital area. Despite his health problems, the host continued to appear on social media, where he shared a video explaining that he had undergone three operations. “On Saturday I had a program and on Monday I had already scheduled an operation here in Lima, of course. I always tell them about my personal things, how I’m doing and all that. So three weeks ago I had two operations and this is my third operation,” he said.

Hurtado’s lawyer, Julio Rodriguez argued that his client was not fit to be detained due to his medical condition, and that the surgery he had undergone was extremely serious. However, the authorities determined that there was sufficient evidence to proceed with preliminary detention for a period of seven days.
According to the lawyer Romy Chang who commented on the case on a television channel, once the seven-day period is up, the Prosecutor’s Office will have to decide whether to formalize the preliminary investigation and request preventive detention against Hurtado.
