According to the report, the Meta-owned messenger firm banned more than 72 lakh malicious WhatsApp accounts in India between July 1 and July 31, 2023. A total of 7,228,000 accounts were banned by WhatsApp this month, of which 3,108,000 accounts were banned as a precaution despite no reports from users, WhatsApp claimed.
An Indian account is identified by the +91 country code. WhatsApp releases monthly report as per IT Rules 2021. These reports include details of complaints received from users and actions taken by WhatsApp. According to WhatsApp’s report, a total of 11,067 reports were received from users in India in July, of which 72 reports were acted upon.
“We are an industry leader in preventing and combating abuse and providing secure messaging services. Along with our security features and controls, we have appointed a team of engineers, data scientists, analysts, researchers and law enforcement experts, experts in online security and technology development to oversee these efforts,’ WhatsApp claimed.
Many WhatsApp users have received calls and messages from numbers with codes from different countries including Ethiopia (+251), Malaysia (+60), Indonesia (+62), Kenya (+254), Vietnam (+84). There have been many attempts to deceive the innocent through various lures. A lot of innocent people have been cheated by this. International calls coming through WhatsApp does not mean that the caller is in another country. WhatsApp calls go through the Internet. So anyone can call from an international number sitting in your city…!
