New Delhi. Former Prime Minister of the country Dr. Manmohan Singh merged into Panchatattva today. The funeral of the former PM took place with state honors at Nigam Bodh Ghat. All the opposition parties including Congress have attacked the Center regarding the last rites.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the way Manmohan Singh was cremated was an insult to the Sikhs. Rahul said, ‘The present government has completely insulted Manmohan Singh, the great son of Mother India and the first Prime Minister of the Sikh community, by conducting his last rites at Nigambodh Ghat today.’
Rahul Gandhi further said that till date, respecting the dignity of all the former Prime Ministers, their last rites were performed in authorized mausoleums so that every person could pay homage without any inconvenience. He said that Manmohan Singh deserves our highest respect and mausoleum. The government should have shown respect towards this great son of the country and his glorious community.
Controversy has deepened regarding the funeral and mausoleum site of Manmohan Singh. In fact, Congress had requested the Center to provide a place for the last rites of the former PM on the banks of Yamuna in Delhi, where there are memorial places of former Prime Ministers of the country. Congress demanded that Manmohan Singh’s last rites be performed there and a memorial site should also be built there. But the Center said that it takes time, hence the cremation should be done at Nigam Bodh Ghat only.
