The singer Joaquina Carruitero had to go a long way to win the Mexican contest “El challenger”. On the day of the final gala, which took place last Sunday, October 2, the Peruvian was only as a singing candidate, but thanks to her effort and talent she was beating her opponents until she raised the cup of the victory.

Joaquina Carruiterowho a year ago appeared in “El retador”, had to beat Abby Espinoza to become the official singing challenger. If she passed, she had to face Kika Edgar, an artist who a week ago managed to stay on her throne.
For this stage of the contest, the national interpreter sang “And I’m telling you I’m not going” and managed to captivate the members of the jury, which was made up of Alicia Villarreal, Fonseca, Lupillo Rivera, the comedian La India Yuridia and the choreographer Arcelia Peña.
“The truth is that they have a very high level,” said Alicia Villarreal after the presentations by Joaquina Carruitero and Aby Espinoza. “What we have just seen here is a display of skill and virtuosity,” added Fonseca. Precisely, the three juries opted for the voice of the Peruvian.
After beating Aby Espinoza, Joaquina Carruitero once again conquered the jury of “El retador” with an emotional performance. The Adele imitator sang “When nobody sees me”, a song by Alejandro Sanz, and she surprised more than one by taking off the dress she was wearing in order to show herself as she is.
“I want to tell you that you are a brave woman, a woman who represents many of us who cannot do what you do not do,” said Alicia Villarreal through tears, reaffirming her vote for Joaquina. The other judges who also trusted the Peruvian were La India Yuridia and Lupillo Rivera, who also broke down when remembering his deceased sister.
In the last round of the competition, the winners of dance, imitation and singing had to offer a show again to win “El retador” and thus win 3 million Peruvian pesos or its equivalent in dollars. For this phase, Carruitero delighted with the song “Enamórate Me”.
After the three presentations, the host Consuelo Duval announced that Emmanuel Torres, winner of the dance category, was in third place by decision of the jury. Everything would remain between Joaquina Carruitero and Verónica Linares, who dethroned Luigui Cruz, the Peruvian imitator of José José.
After several minutes of suspense, the Mexican actress was surprised to see the results, since Joaquina and Verónica had the same score. That is to say, the two participants will have to share the 3 million pesos that there was as a prize. Those who voted for Carruitero were Lupillo Rivera and Alicia Villarreal.
“I can’t believe it. According to the rating of the judges, the result of this competition is… a tie. Verónica and Joaquina with the champions of ‘El retador’. It’s historic”, said Consuelo Duval very excited.
In the end, both contestants took one and a half million Mexican pesos. That is, almost 75,000 dollars.
