A single-page resolution was enough for Congressman Matt Gaetz, a far-right Republican from Florida, to launch an unprecedented measure in the history of the US Congress: the impeachment of a speaker of the House.
This Tuesday, a handful of conservative rebels joined Gaetz in voting to depose Kevin McCarthy, the Republican president. By 216 votes in favor and 210 against, the initiative was successful, plunging the Republican-controlled House of Representatives into chaos again and consolidating Gaetz’s position as one of the main antagonists of the Capitol.
