Why did Don Omar retire?
In an interview with the Panamanian ‘El Chombo’, broadcast on October 5, 2022 on his YouTube channel, Don Omar explained the reason that prompted him to leave music.
As he said, this was due to the changes that the industry was experiencing with the boom in music platforms and social networks, which did not make it very clear how the profits would be distributed, as they were not measured by physical records, only by streaming. And in that equation, for every $10 a song cost, its Universal label would receive 9 and he only 1.
“They told me that I literally had to wait three years for the contract to end and I went home,” Don Omar told when refusing to enter a cumbersome legal process.
Why did Don Omar return to music?
On January 1, 2019, Don Omar’s management company, Mr. & Mrs. Entertainment, reported the return to music of the ‘King of reggaeton’.

His official return to the industry was made through the launch of “Flow HP”, in September 2021. The song turned out to be his first collaboration with Residente.
“For my return to music, I had to expose what I am, as a performer and as a Puerto Rican. Without warm cloths and with all the strength that has always characterized me. It was very easy to work on this reggaeton collaboration with René, on this song he left his unique style reflected and because of what we met him at the beginning of it, ”explained Don Omar.
then they came “Bobs” with Nio Garcia and “You don’t dance more than me” with Jerry Rivera. And in 2022, he released “Sincere” and “Soy yo” in collaboration with Wisin and Gente de Zona.
