The Porsche 911 Sport Classic appears in the showrooms and some collectors are eager to buy a copy. So much so, in fact, that a Porsche dealer in the United States is single-handedly adding $250,000 to the new price.
The absurd price increase was noticed by someone on Reddit and he passed the information on to the American website TheDrive. They verified with the dealer whether the price increase was correct. The dealer confirmed the bizarre price increase.
It concerns a Californian Porsche dealer with the name Porsche Redwood City. The original suggested retail price of the Sport Classic is $ 272,300 (249,781 euros) in the United States. With options, this specific copy would come out at an amount of $ 288,910 (265,017 euros).
Only 1250 copies
The dealer apparently thought that was a bit low for a Porsche 911 of which only 1250 copies are made, so he decided to increase the new price by $ 250,000, or a price increase of 86.5 percent.
This brings the total amount of the 911 Sport Classic to an astronomical $ 538,910 (494,343 euros). The American dealer is in his right, since he can charge a ‘dealer markup’ on top of the suggested retail price. In the Netherlands this is not allowed. “And it won’t happen,” says a spokesman for Porsche importer Pon.
Strongest manual 911
The Sport Classic is the most powerful 911 with manual transmission. The 3.7-liter Porsche is equipped with two turbos, making the Sport Classic 550 hp (405 kW) strong. The car is equipped with a seven-speed manual gearbox and a so-called ducktail spoiler, which was also on the Porsche 911 RS from 1973.
The car also has unique wheels, carbon fiber elements and gold badging, and unique interior details, such as seats upholstered in houndstooth, also known as ‘pied-de-poule’. The Sport Classic accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and the top speed is 315 km/h. In the Netherlands, the Porsche 911 Sport Classic costs 376,285 euros.
