The reason they allow metal spoons to be placed in a container in the microwave is to avoid burns. Because when heating a liquid it may have reached its boiling point, the problem is that in the microwave, this boiling effect is late and the bubbles that, for example, appear in a pot do not come out. The function of the metal spoon is to prevent that late boiling from occurring, so that the liquid is heated evenly.
