The government is moving to carry out a strategic reform that concerns the clearing fund, which will lead to lifting subsidies on a number of items, which will affect the purchasing power of citizens, especially the middle class, which will not benefit from direct social support.
On the occasion of the discussion of the draft finance law for the year 2024, the parliamentary opposition teams confirmed that the decision to lift subsidies on a number of basic materials should be accompanied by a set of measures so that the middle class does not pay the price, since prices will become liberal.
Opposition representatives fear that merchants will use the excuse of purchasing gas bottles, bread, and sugar at the real price and not at the subsidized price, which may lead to speculation in prices.
In this regard, Bouazza El Kharati, President of the National University for Consumer Protection, said in his interview with Al Jarida 24, that the middle class will suffer greatly from the decision to reform the clearing fund, as it will pay for food products at their real price, and will not benefit from direct social support.
Al-Kharati stressed that the continuation of random increases in prices will threaten social peace, especially with the emergence of reports confirming the near extinction of the middle class.
The President of the National University for Consumer Protection added that the government is required to implement workshops to reform the clearing fund, without contributing to the collapse of the purchasing power of male and female citizens, and returning Morocco to point zero.
The same speaker called on the government to provide monitoring agents with the material, human and logistical means to control price speculators, calling at the same time to raise the wages of the middle class or reduce the income tax, as a measure to protect it from the risk of extinction due to random increases.
