The fifth edition of the Dubai Cycling Challenge, which was held at dawn today, set a new record in terms of the number of participants, reaching 50,000 participants, surpassing the previous number recorded in last year’s edition, which amounted to 35,000.
The fifth edition also witnessed, for the first time, a speed challenge race that was held on the long track extending 12 kilometers on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, before the “Bicycle Challenge” event was officially launched for all community groups, which was held on two tracks, the first in the “Boulevard” area. It extended for 4 kilometers, and the second was part of the long route (12 kilometers) extending along the vital Sheikh Zayed Road.
Vice Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, Khalfan Belhoul, confirmed in press statements that the fifth edition of the “Dubai Cycling Challenge” has attracted more than 50,000 cyclists of various ages, nationalities and physical abilities, setting a new record in the number of participants, and let Dubai dazzle the world once again with this success. This unique event reinforces its position as the largest community event in the region dedicated to cycling.
The “Bicycle Challenge” is one of the most prominent events of the “Dubai Fitness Challenge”, the pioneering initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, with the aim of promoting physical activity among members of society and transforming Dubai into a One of the most active cities in the world and a favorite destination to live, work and visit.
