Rescuers in China rescued a woman alive from the rubble of a building that partially collapsed nearly six days ago. This is reported by Chinese state media. The woman is the tenth survivor of the disaster in the city of Changsha, in which at least five people have been killed and possibly dozens of people are still missing.
Xinhua News Agency reports that the woman was rescued shortly after midnight, 132 hours after the rear of the building suddenly collapsed. The woman was conscious when rescuers found her. The search uses drones, electrical detectors, dogs and hand tools.
All the people who survived the accident are currently in good condition after being treated in hospital. Rainfall in the region in recent days has probably increased the chance of survival, the local police report.

President Xi Jinping has said that the victims must be rescued “at any cost”. The cause of the disaster is still under investigation. Poor adherence to safety standards, including illegally adding additional floors and not using rebars, is often attributed to such disasters. China also suffers from rotten infrastructure such as bad gas pipes that have led to explosions and collapses before.
Nine people have been arrested, including the building owner and a team of security inspectors. They allegedly falsified a security statement for the building.
