On the final day of the Women’s World Boxing Championship, Nikat Zareen took on Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Thim in the first round of the finals.
It looked like Nikat spent several seconds at the start of the first round learning his opponent’s tactics. While the first round was 5-0 in Nikat’s favour, the second round went 2-3 against him. So the third round was exciting. Nikat Zareen, who performed well in it, was finally selected as the winner.
In the 54kg category Huang Wen from Taipei (i.e. Taiwan) clashed with Arias Marcella from Colombia. The Colombian was almost as tall as her opponent.
So the Taipei player was able to land several punches on her opponent. At the same time, the Colombian player was somehow reminiscent of the famous tennis player Monica Seles. A growling sound came from his throat with each punch attempt. The unanimous decision of the judges was in favor of the Taipei player. Funny how he jumped completely three times when the referee raised his hand.
Both the men who clashed in the finals of the 60 kg category were from South America. One is Ferrari Beatrice from Brazil. The other is Valdez Paulo from Colombia. It was hilarious that the Brazilian danced when the victory was announced at the end. In the 75kg category, Indian player Lovlina clashed with Australian player Parker Anevo.
Lovlina took a 3-2 lead in the first round and trailed 1-4 in the second round. After the end of the third round, there was silence in the arena until it was announced that Lovlina was the winner.
At the end of the tournament, the Indian team was adjudged the best team with four gold medals. Nikat Zareen was selected as the best Indian player.
