Tirupati: The National Highway between Chennai and Tirupati is in a dilapidated condition Customs duty Roja, an MLA from Nagari constituency and an actress, has complained that she should not be charged.
The National Highway between Chennai and Tirupati is in a state of disrepair due to heavy rains in November and December last year. Thus motorists are getting into a lot of trouble on this lane.
Sometimes the vehicles also break down. The road from Tirupati to Renigunta, Puttur and Nagari is particularly bad. Thus, Nagari MLA Roja yesterday lodged a complaint with Transport Secretary Krishna Babu in Vijayawada.
It says: Thousands of vehicles ply daily between Chennai and Tirupati. Currently the road is very bad and motorists are suffering. However, vehicles are charged at the North Malaipettai toll plaza near Puthur without upgrading the road. In what way is this fair? According to the complaint, motorists will have to pay a toll only after the road is upgraded. The National Highways Department in Chennai was also consulted in this regard. Andhra Pradesh Transport Secretary Krishna Babu has assured that maintenance work will be carried out on the Tirupati-Chennai National Highway soon.
