The Spanish Football Club Barcelona announced that Xavi Hernandez will remain officially the team’s coach, after he retracted his decision to leave at the end of the current season. Xavi (44 years old) announced last January that he would relinquish his position as head of the team’s technical leadership, indicating that his team needed “a change in dynamic.”
However, news reports revealed late yesterday evening that things have completely changed within the corridors of Barcelona regarding Xavi’s future, especially after the meetings that the young coach held with a large number of Catalan club officials, with Joan Laporta, Barcelona’s president, confirming that Xavi will remain today. Xavi said, “I am a big fan of Barcelona. I have a high level of trust with the president and the board of directors. The support of the players was also essential in retracting my previous decision.” He added: “I think this is what is best for the club. We have many options for the project to continue.” When asked about Barcelona fans, Xavi said: “They made me see that the project was not completed, especially the fans. I want to thank them for their support and love.”
Laporta said in a press conference: “Today, I am happy to inform you that Xavi will continue to coach Barcelona. It is great news that he will stay with us.” Xavi’s current contract with Barcelona is scheduled to expire in 2025, according to the British news agency (BA Media).
