Yet my Google, you made me a serial killer

Have you done a Google search for your name? What is on display. There is nothing wrong with that, is there? If you have not yet done a Google search for your name, you may want to do a search. Or perhaps the same thing will happen to you as happened to Histo Georgiev, an engineer in Zurich, Switzerland.

One of his former colleagues emailed Georgiev. Do a Google search for “Historic Georgiev” and you will find the answer. The description provided by Google along with his picture is that of a former Bulgarian serial killer. His name is Histor Georgiev, and he was convicted of murdering five women between 1974 and 1980.

The engineer does not understand how the name of Histo Georgiev, who was shot dead on August 28, 1980, came to be associated with his image. Because the name Histor Georgiev is common. In addition to the killer and the engineer, many people in the Scandinavian countries have the same name. Then the engineer asks how his own image came to be the killer on Google. “Literally hundreds of people have my name. Yet my personal photo is associated with a serial killer, ”Histo Georgiev wrote on the blog.

“An algorithm used by billions of people (Google) displays such misinformation that it is really frightening that the perception of an individual can be easily distorted in society,” Georgiev added. Georgiev noted that such mistakes could call into question a person’s identity and ruin a person’s career and reputation. Georgiev wrote in his blog that the time has come for us to change the way we collect information from a single website.

Georgiev later clarified that the issue with Google had been resolved. When searching for the name of the Bulgarian serial killer Histo Georgiev, known as ‘The Sadist’, Google does not currently display the image of engineer Histo Georgiev.
