The woman has to pay Rs 33 lakh as compensation for the American Airlines flight. This amount was awarded as compensation for the losses caused by having to land the plane. The court sentenced him to three-and-a-half months’ imprisonment and three-and-a-half months’ probation. 29-year-old Kayla Faris will not be able to travel on commercial flights without prior approval during these months.
The incident related to the case took place on February 13, 2022. During the flight from Phoenix, Arizona to Honolulu, Hawaii, the young woman used profanity and threatened fellow passengers and flight attendants. While trying to solve the problem by approaching the young woman who misbehaved with fellow passengers, they also misbehaved with the staff.
Crew members informed the pilot that the woman was unfit for duty as she continued to abuse and threaten. With this, the captain decided to divert the plane to Phoenix. The staff stated that the young woman’s behavior was excessive.
After receiving a complaint from the crew members, the pilot decided to divert the plane. The FBI and the Phoenix Police Department launched an investigation following a complaint filed by the airline and took the woman into custody. The woman confessed in court. Along with the inconvenience caused to passengers by the flight diversion, several flights had to be diverted to Hawaii. With this, the court directed the airline to pay compensation.
