New Delhi: The court warned the person who filed a public interest litigation in the Supreme Court seeking compensation from Google and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him.
Anand Kishore Chowdhury, a youth, filed a public interest litigation in the Supreme Court. In it, he had demanded that “I was not able to win the competitive examination due to the distraction caused by the advertisements coming through the YouTube channels while searching for study materials. As a result, I should be ordered to pay compensation to Google, the operator of YouTube.”
The petition came up for hearing today before a bench comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Gaum and AS Oka. The judges who heard this petition said, “This is a impertinent petition. This petition is a total insult to the dignity of public interest litigation. The petitioner can avoid watching any advertisement that he does not like. If you are distracted by any advertisement, you should avoid it. On the contrary, pursuing a public interest litigation like this is a waste of court time. .We dismiss this petition and direct him to pay a fine of Rs.25 thousand to the court within 4 weeks,” they said.
Earlier, the court imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on him. After that the youth gave a letter of apology to the court. The Supreme Court then reduced his fine to Rs 25,000 and allowed him to go home.
