Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has revoked the citizenship of several top officials who worked under former President Viktor Yanukovych. This was reported on February 4 by the UNN publication, citing law enforcement sources.
“Vladimir Zelensky has revoked the citizenship of a number of officials during the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych. The basis for this decision was the fact that they have Russian citizenship, ”the publication reports.
According to UNN, in the list of those deprived of citizenship of Ukraine: ex-Minister Minister of Education and Science Dmitry Tabachnik, former Minister of Internal Affairs Vitaliy Zakharchenko, former head of the presidential administration Andriy Klyuev, former head of the Security Service of Ukraine Oleksandr Yakymenko, ex-minister of income and fees Alexander Klimenko.
Also, according to the publication, deputies of local councils from the Opposition Platform for Life (OPZZH) party were deprived of Ukrainian citizenship. It is clarified that we are talking about the deputy of the Odessa City Council Viktor Baransky and the deputy of the Kharkov City Council Nikita Shentsev, Bogdan Klyuev, Vitaly Slab and Alexander Gorbylev.
In turn, Zelensky on February 4, in an evening video message to the Ukrainians, said that “cleansing from those who are on the side of Russia” continues inside the country. According to him, there is a submission from the Security Service regarding persons who have Russian citizenship, they signed “relevant documents.”
Earlier, on January 13, it was reported that the Verkhovna Rada revoked the mandate of deputies from the Opposition Platform for Life faction Taras Kozak, Andriy Derkach, Renat Kuzmin and the head of the political force Viktor Medvedchuk. Also, all four were deprived of Ukrainian citizenship.
On January 7, it became known that Zelensky had suspended the citizenship of 13 priests of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The Decree of December 28 was not officially made public, while the media reported that it concerns Metropolitan Jonathan of Tulchinsky and Braslav, whom the SBU suspects of treason.
Prior to that, on September 2, it was reported that Zelensky by decrees deprived ten compatriots of citizenship, of which five were minors. Due to the norms of the law, the names and surnames of people are not called.
