Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Monday that he had visited the Donetsk region, located in the east of the country, on the front line with Russian forces.
In a post on the Telegram application that he attached to a video clip showing him accompanied by soldiers, Zelensky said, “The Donetsk region. We are visiting the combat brigades that defend Ukraine within the Donetsk Operational and Tactical Group.”
The Ukrainian president did not mention where specifically he met with the soldiers.
He added in his post, “Important reports, problematic issues, supplies that need to be increased, and the introduction of an auxiliary management system to ensure supplies to the brigades, and increase motivation for our fighters.”
This inspection visit came the day after Zelensky announced his intention to dismiss Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, who has held this position since the war began.
This amendment represents a major change at the top of the Ukrainian military leadership in the midst of the war against Russia.
This visit also comes after Kiev achieved some tactical successes last week in its counterattack, which it has been launching since the summer to defeat Russian forces.
On the other hand, the Russian Ministry of Defense and the Mayor of Moscow said that Russian air defense systems shot down drones launched by Ukraine in Istra in the Moscow region and in Kaluga early on Tuesday, targeting the Russian capital.
Earlier, the governor of the Bryansk region in western Russia reported that border guards and security forces “thwarted” an attempt by a Ukrainian subversive group to cross into Russian territory.
Moscow repeatedly spoke this year about Ukrainian groups trying to penetrate its territory, and even sent helicopters to eliminate one of those attempts in the Belgorod region last May.
Governor Alexander Bogomaz said via Telegram, “Elements of the Russian Border Guard and units of the Russian Ministry of Defense thwarted an attempt to enter the territory of the Russian Federation by a Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group.”
The Bryansk region is located in western Russia, on the border with Belarus, Moscow’s ally, and Ukraine.
Like many Russian border regions, Bryansk has been regularly subjected to Ukrainian attacks and bombing.
