Dog behavior is determined by genetic predisposition and environment. Polina Parfenteva, a zoopsychologist and specialist at the Center for Humanistic Animal Psychology, told Izvestia about this.
“These are the features of the psyche, and what kind of predisposition the dog has in terms of genetics. For example, I am currently working with a very disturbing “cake” (a breed of Welsh Corgi dog – Ed.), and they are very often like this, so a dog is always environment and genetics. Genetics plus environment is what determines the behavior of the dog, ”explained the expert.
She pointed out that there are certain breeds of dogs that are prone to specific psychological problems. However, this does not mean that the animal will definitely have certain qualities, the breed only speaks of a predisposition.
As an example, Parfenteva cited the Jack Russell Terrier breed.
“Jack Russells are very active, and very often this leads to the fact that they are so sonorous and mobile, they can gnaw everything and destroy apartments. Very often, when fearful, they can show aggression, this is genetically inherent, they are more likely to attack than run away. At the same time, they are cheerful and active, a very cool breed, but not for everyone, ”said the zoopsychologist.
